"Weathered Look" Bird Houses

How can I apply (paint?) a weathered, "barn board" or antique-look to the bird houses that I make out of pine or cedar?

Fred,

To get a weathered look I would aplly a coat of white or off-white latex paint that was thinned down with water in a 1 to 1 mix. Once dried I would try using a wire brush and/or coarse sand paper to knock the paint off the corners and sides abit. You can add several layers of either slightly different or totally different colored paints and remove varying amounts.

Then if you want to apply a exterior sealant to prevent the wood from actually being damaged by the weather you can.

Good luck, Jim
