How can I repair plaster walls?

Hi Everyone,
I have plaster walls in kitchen with ceramic tile adhesive left from when the tile was taken off (lots of adhesive). It has since been painted over and looks awful. How can I get rid of it? Is there any way to take it off or thincoat over it?

Thank you

a somewhat "stinky" operation will take off the old glue. use a propane torch with a flame spreader attachment on it. heat the glue up enough to soften it and scrape it off with a stiff 4 inch putty knife. be careful NOT to cause it to smoulder. wear a respirator and carry a fire extinguisher nearby. anything left can be removed with acetone. acetone is very flammable. use zissner kilz as a primer then do with the wall what you must.

If your a little nervous about attacking the wall with a flame, you could skim coat drywall compound over the area. This might take a couple of coats to get the feathered edges and don't be afraid to cover an area much bigger than the problem area, what your looking for is a nice slow build up over the existing glue.

Note: secret with drywall is to put it on and walk away and let it dry, the more you "play" with it trying to make it the way you want it in one go the more trouble you will end up in. Put it on, let it dry, put some more on...etc...etc... until your happy.
